BRITISH holidaymakers are set to swarm to the Capital this summer, according to a new survey.
Edinburgh was named as the ‘staycation’ capital of the country, beating off stiff competition from London.
With major events such as the Military Tattoo and the Festival Fringe, the city attracts more than 2.15 million domestic visitors per year, according to recent government figures.
The airport, meanwhile, is the UK’s sixth busiest, visited by more than 30,000 passengers a day. The survey, compiled by Pegasus Marine Finance, found that 15 per cent of the 10,000 tourists quizzed had their sights set on Edinburgh.
Glasgow, was named the UK’s 21st most popular staycation destination – while Loch Lomond tourist spots Aberfoyle and Inveraray also made the long list.
Across the Border, one in ten participants said that they would be visiting London this summer – while Bournemouth, Manchester and Whitby made up the top five.
