A prestigious school in Edinburgh has offered three full bursaries to Syrian refugee children.
George Heriot’s, which has been in existence for more than 400 years, offered fully-paid bursaries to offer a first-class education in Scotland.
Administrators at the school had originally agreed to pay for two full bursaries but increased the number to three once they had met the candidates.
The school worked with the Edinburgh council to identify children that had come to Edinburgh as part of the Government’s Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme
Cameron Wyllie, the school’s principal stated that the school offered the bursaries because: “we just wanted to do our bit”
The three bursaries offered by the school mark the first time that the school has offered places specifically to refugees since World War One.
The bursary offered by the school is named after Dimitry Dulkanovic. a Serbian who was offered a bursary after fleeing violence in 1916.
