Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said temperatures will reach up to 17C in the capital today, with the risk of some overnight showers into Wednesday morning. It will vary between 15C and 18C for most of the week across the city.

But she said it will start feeling much colder at night on Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures dropping into single figures in the outskirts.

She said: "This will affect more rural areas on higher land just outside of the city. There will potentially be a bit of grass frost."

However Ms Maxey added: "We may get up to 22C on Sunday in Edinburgh, with a good spell of sunshine.

"There will still be lots of cloud around into the weekend but it will start to get sunny and slightly warmer."
