Edinburgh takeaway with hundreds of terrible reviews closes down

An Edinburgh chippy which received hundreds of terrible reviews has closed down, with a new fish and chip shop taking its place.

Kingfisher, in the city's Bread Street, was slated on Tripadvisor and Google and even made it onto the local Reddit page in October due to the number of hilarious reviews.

It has now been replaced by Luca's, a new takeaway with new management which opened on Thursday.

Reviews of Kingfisher on Trip Advisor included claims that it took five hours to deliver a takeaway, and that better food was served up in Saughton prison.

A review posted on Reddit from customer Finn Monteith, said his food took two and a half hours to arrive, and that when it eventually turned up the pizza was "stone cold" and the burger was "inedible."

Another reviewer called Azmer 15 posed the question: “Is this what they feed prisoners in North Korean hard labour camps?”

Despite the largely negative reviews, takeaway manager Crolo Crolla insisted at the time that there was “no problem with the food” at Kingfisher and that he was not concerned by the negative reviews.

He stressed that his team would receive 30 to 40 orders between 1am and 3am, and that customers were often drunk and overly demanding.

The restaurant was rated at 1.5 stars out of five on Tripadvisor last month, with 89% rating it "terrible."
