What appears to be a wild fire has broken out near Hillend ski slope on the Pentland Hills this afternoon
Smoke and flames can be seen around the area with the fire service still on the scene.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue service said: “We were called out just before 4pm to deal with a fire in an area of gorse bushes about 20 metres by 20 metres.
“The fire is still ongoing but we have three pumps ferrying water from the roadside hydrant to tackle the blaze.”
Earlier this month, Edinburgh Outdoors tweeted an alert on wildfires, which are posing a high risk to places like the Pentland Hills Regional Park thanks to the recent hot weather.
They advise not to make campfires, to place BBQs on river shingle or stony ground; extinguish with water and to make sure cigarette butts are out.
