Gas works planned for Haymarket Terrace have been postponed until September following outrage from businesses in the area who have already put up with a year of roadwork mayhem.
Gas firm SGN announced plans to dig up the street to replace old gas mains just days after delayed Scottish Water upgrades, which had overrun by two months, ended.
The gas provider said the decision to delay works was in response to concerns from local businesses and residents.
A temporary road surface has allowed two-way traffic to be re-instated but Rosebery Crescent will remain closed for few days for Scottish Water to remove equipment which being stored in the road.
SGN Project Manager Matt Ferguson said: “After taking into consideration the concerns of local business owners and residents, we’ve made the decision to postpone our essential upgrade project until after the busy festival period. We’ve worked closely with the local authorities and are now planning to begin our work in early September, but you’ll be notified in advance.”
A drop-in session with SGN at the Apex Haymarket Hotel will go ahead on Tuesday 14 August.
