Young woman seriously injured after being hit by motorbike on Leith Walk

A 22-year-old woman is seriously injured in hospital after being knocked down by a motorcyclist in Leith.

Emergency services raced to scene at 12.40am on Leith Walk at the junction of Jane Street where the woman was hit by a Kawasaki motorbike.

The young woman suffered a serious leg injury and is currently receiving treatment at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Police said a 32-year-old had been arrested in relation to a number of road traffic offences.

Police closed Leith Walk between the junctions of Jane Street and Great Junction Street while officers carried out an investigation into the collision.

The road reopened again at around 5am.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers in Edinburgh were alerted at 12.40am to a report of a traffic collision on Leith Walk off the junction of Jane Street involving a a 22-year-old pedestrian and a Kawasaki motorbike.

“The woman sustained a serious leg injury and is at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

“A 32-year-old man has been arrested in relation to various road traffic offences.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
