Man arrested after Moredun garage blaze '˜caused by motorbike gangs'

A 33-year-old man has been arrested following a garage fire in Moredun in the early hours of Saturday August 12.

Police in Edinburgh are continuing to investigate the incident at an outbuilding in Moredun with one man being arrested in connection with this incident.

A substantial explosion is said to have occurred with a nearby electricity substation also damaged.

Chief Inspector Murray Starkey, Local Area Commander for South East Edinburgh, said: “The building collapsed affecting neighbouring properties, and my officers remain in the area to carry out inquiries and to ensure that the public remain safe and do not enter the site.

“A man who was taken to hospital with serious injuries continues to be treated for those injuries.

“We are working with our partners, including the Local Authority and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, to order to safely clear the site and return the surrounding area to normality as quickly as possible.”
