Man arrested after spate of car thefts in the Grange

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with thefts from six cars in the Grange area of the city.

The incidents took place in the early hours of Tuesday August 14.

A small sum of money and an iPod were among the items stolen.

The 39-year-old was held in police custody following his arrest and was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today (Wednesday 15th August).

Chief Inspector Murray Starkey, Local Area Commander for South East Edinburgh, said: “I would like to thank the public for their vigilance and support in providing information to police.

“We continue to investigate a significant number of thefts from vehicles in the Grange, Morningside and Newington areas between April and August.

“There will be continued increased patrols in these areas over the coming weeks to provide reassurance and I’d encourage anyone with information to speak to officers.”
