Man charged with drug driving in Edinburgh after delivery van collision

A man has been charged with driving while under the influence of drugs in Edinburgh following an early morning collision with a delivery lorry in the Stenhouse area of the city.

Police and fire crews attended the scene at around 12:55am on Wednesday morning after the incident involving a Honda Civic and a Greggs truck between Stenhouse Drive and Stenhouse Crescent.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing two men escape from the car shortly after the collision, but police returned them to the scene.

The 42-year-old driver of the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries before being charged.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh responded to a collision in Stenhouse Drive at around 12.50 a.m. on Wednesday 7th February.”

“The incident involved a Honda Civic Car and a HGV and resulted in a 42-year-old man being taken to hospital for treatment to various non life-threatening injuries.

“He was subsequently charged in connection with driving under the influence of drugs and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesman added: “The SFRS was alerted at 12.54am on Wednesday, February 7 to a road traffic collision at the junction of Stenhouse Drive and Stenhouse Crescent, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised three fire appliances and a heavy rescue unit to the incident that involved an HGV and a car.

“There were no casualties and crews left the scene at 1.38am after ensuring the area was made safe.”
