An appeal to track down the owner of an urn discovered in the back of an Edinburgh taxi has been successful after a man came forward to claim the object.

Police confirmed a male relative came forward today (Tuesday) to claim the urn, which was dark grey and white in colour and placed in a small velvet box.

It follows a public appeal from Police Scotland after the ornate urn was found at 2am on Sunday, April 30.

In a Facebook post, the force said: “Good news folks! As a result of your help in sharing our wee appeal to find the owner of a miniature urn, which was left in a taxi, a man has since come forward to claim the item.

“Thank you all very much for your assistance.”
