COPS say they are hunting a suspect over a Samurai-sword robbery on an 80-year-old shopkeeper in Midlothian.

They have a description of the man they want to speak to following the raid on News Boyz newsagent in The Square in Penicuik.

The man, said to be in his 20s, raided the shop on October 6, threatening the pensioner with the weapon.

They struggled when he demanded money from the shopkeeper who fought back and was left injured.

The thief got away with a three figure sum of cash.

Now detectives say they are closing in on the raider said to be white, around 20-years-old and around 5ft 7ins tall.

Detective Constable Andrew Hope from Dalkeith CID said: “Since our initial appeal, we’ve spoken to a number of members of the public and we are grateful for the information they provided us with.

“However, we have yet to identify the suspect and so we need anyone who has yet to come forward, but believes they can assist with our inquiries, to do so immediately.”

Those with information can contact Dalkeith CID via 101 and quote incident number 3936 or phone charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
