OWNERS of the Central Fish Bar and Takeaway on Teviot Place have shut up shop for the final time after serving loyal customers and visitors alike for nearly 40 years.

The popular shop was known for its friendly service and reasonable prices and was a favourite of Festival go-ers, students and traditional fish supper lovers.

Rubbing shoulder with Ting Thai Caravan and a stones throw from student union Potterrow, and iconic pub Doctors the takeaway has been a mainstay of the Old Town for four decades.

The owners, who are retiring, have thanked customers of the takeaway for their loyalty in a message on the window, which reads “We are retiring, Central will close after 38 years. Thank you to all our customers past and present.”
