A SEX attacker who violently raped a teenager in her home more than 20 years ago was jailed today.
John Sinclair, 43, began his assault on the victim when she was asleep at a flat and kept going after she woke up.
Sinclair later claimed it was a sex game gone wrong but was found guilty of raping the woman between April 1993 and April 1996 by a jury at the High Court in Edinburgh.
A judge told him that he had been convicted of “a grave charge” and detained him in custody ahead of sentencing in January.
Lord Armstrong also ordered that Sinclair, formerly of Lochend Square, in Edinburgh, should be placed on the sex offenders’ register.
The woman told the court that at the time of the offence she was a teenager and that Sinclair had previously been violent to her.
She said: “He was staying in the house because he had nowhere else to go.”
She said he had been bedding down on a couch while she slept on a bed settee.
She remembered it was really cold in the flat at the time and Sinclair kept asking if he could get in beside her because he was “freezing”.
She said: “He wasn’t going to do anything, he wasn’t going to try anything, he just wanted to come in because he was cold.”
The woman said she had eventually agreed and had been feeling tired and fell asleep but woke to find Sinclair performing an oral sex act on her.
She told the court she tried to push herself up but her attacker went on top of her and was foaming at the mouth.
“He came up on top of me and held me down. He pinned his weight on top of me. It was a struggle. I was trying to get away. It was like trying to push against a wall.”
“The whole time I was saying ‘Please get off me, get off me, please, please get off me’. I was crying and I was quite hysterical,” she said.
