THOUSANDS of dog lovers have joined a search for a family pet missing in Midlothian.

Lad the three-year-old border collie slipped his lead and harness during a walk around Newbattle Abbey on Sunday.

Now everyone from drone enthusiasts to animal behaviour experts and police have joined the search.

“It’s been absolutely amazing, the amount of support we’re getting from complete strangers,” said owner Carole Haggarty, from Bonnyrigg.

Up to 40 dog walkers at the time have been out searching for former farm dog Lad, with several sightings in and around Newbatttle.

And a Find Lad Facebook page has been shared around 3,000 times in a bid to track him down.

“Experts say he’s in flight mode and he’s got enough food in him for 72 hours, then might settle a bit,” said Carole.

The family are now desperate to get Lad back home, not least 11-year-old Aiden. “He’s missing him very much,” said Carole.
