a SOLDIER has died after falling through a primary school roof in the early hours of the morning.
Josh Wilson, 19, was rushed to the Royal Infirmary on Sunday but died at the hospital yesterday.
Police said the tragedy occurred at St Mary’s Primary School, on East London Street, shortly before 5am.
Another person was taken to hospital by ambulance, but their condition is not known.
Tributes have now flooded in for the Army serviceman, from Stevenston in North Ayrshire.
One friend wrote on Facebook: “RIP Josh Wilson. What a lovely boy taken far too soon.
“Can’t believe it. Thoughts go out to everyone. Such a cruel world.”
Another said: “RIP Josh, seems like last week you were in here laughing and smiling away.
“God only takes the best and not the worst, there’s only one Josh Wilson.”
A friend from the Army wrote: “I can’t believe it.
“Only a few weeks ago we were in training.
“RIP Josh Wilson, you were a top man, absolutely shocked.”
The Scottish Ambulance service was on the scene shortly after the incident and confirmed rushing two casualties to hospital.
A spokesman for the Army said: “We are aware of an incident that took place at the weekend.
“As this is a matter for Police Scotland it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to East London Street shortly before 5am on Sunday, May 7 following a report that a man had fallen through the roof of St Mary’s Primary School.
“The 19-year-old was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment but he sadly succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, May 9.
“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
A spokesman for the city council added: “Our thoughts are with the young man’s family.
“We are supporting police with their inquiries.”
