RAM-RAIDERS stole a Land Rover before going on the rampage across Edinburgh and Midlothian last night.

The grey Land Rover Discovery was stolen from a house in Cluny Drive, Morningside at around 12.45am before being driven into three newsagents, a pub and a dentist.

The 4x4 was used during a ram-raid of the Blackhall Village Newsagent on Craigcrook Road at 1.15am and the shop’s ATM machine containing cash stolen.

It was then driven to Pasha’s Newsagent on Balgreen Road at 4.15am and involved in an attempted housebreaking at the Stenhouse Newsagent, Stenhouse Cross at around 4.40am.

The stolen Landrover is also thought to have been used in two further break-ins at a dental practice in Rosewell Road, Bonnyrigg and the Elginhaugh Farm pub on Gilmerton Road, Lasswade between 3.30 and 3.50am.

Detective Sergeant Keith Taylor said: “We firmly believe that the individuals responsible for the theft of the Landrover are also responsible for this spate of ram-raids, break-ins and attempted break-ins across Edinburgh and Midlothian.

“As part of our ongoing inquiries we are actively looking to trace the stolen vehicle and anyone who believes they have seen it, or knows its current whereabouts should contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to any of these incidents is also urged to get in touch.”

Those with information can contact the CIU via 101 or make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
