A CHINESE restaurant served up a prawn cocktail contaminated with insects, a court heard.
Philip Lau, boss of the Mei Hua Platform, admitted his food was “not of the quality demanded by the purchaser”.
Lau, 65, who lives at the West Lothian restaurant in Station House, West Calder, also admitted failing to maintain a suitable decontamination process.
Restaurants are obliged to check what they serve against a food safety management system called Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points.
The charges against Lau reveal that he failed to ensure that the lettuce in his restaurant’s prawn cocktail was insect-free.
The restaurant, based in the former rail station and booking office on the commuter line from Glasgow to Edinburgh, charges £3.50 for a prawn cocktail.
Lau did not appear at court but pled guilty by letter. He was ordered to appear personally for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court on August 19.
