Update: Cyclist, 37, dies after crash with car in West Lothian

A 37-year-old male cyclist has died following a collision with a car near Dechmont.

Details of the deceased are yet to be released.

The collision took place on Wednesday at 5.20pm on the A89, on the access to Bangour Hospital.

A 37-year-old cyclist travelling east suffered serious injuries following the collision involving a Mercedes C220 car that was travelling west.

Emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead on the way to hospital a short time later.

The road was closed for approximately seven hours for collision investigations at the scene and local road closures were in place.

Sergeant Brian Smith from Livingston’s Road Policing Unit said: “Sadly as a result of the collision the cyclist lost his life and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“A number of people who were driving on the road at the time stopped to assist and we are thankful to them for their assistance.

“I’d ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and has not yet spoken to officers, to come forward to assist with our inquiries. Any driver who may have dash-cam footage is also asked to get in touch and provide this at their earliest opportunity.”
