With news of the iconic Studio 24 venue where Nirvana famously played getting knocked down and separate plans for a new 1,200-capacity live music venue on the cards, let’s look back on some of the biggest names in music to play in Edinburgh through the years.
1. The Beatles at ABC Lothian Road, 1964
The Beatles played at the ABC Cinema, Lothian Road in March 1998. Previous visits to Scotand had seen The Beatles skip out Edinburgh until two 17 year old fans collected 8,000 signatures to persuade the group to visit the capital
2. AC/DC at the Leith Theatre, 1976
As part of their ‘Lock Up Your Daughters’ UK Tour, AC/DC made their way to the Leith Theatre on Saturday 12 June, 1976. The set list included the likes of ‘It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)’ and ‘High Voltage’
3. Queen at the Edinburgh Playhouse, 1976
On 1 September, 1976, Queen played the Edinburgh Playhouse with their supporting band Supercharge. Their setlist included classic Queen songs like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Killer Queen’.

4. The Ramones at Clouds, 1977
In 1977, The Ramones played at a nightclub called Clouds - what we now know today as Atik. On tour with The Ramones was The Rezillos and tickets to the gig cost £2.
