Athletics: Double joy at Bellahouston

Capital students Mark Mitchell and Rhona Auckland were convincing winners of the Scottish 4k short course cross-country titles at Bellahouston Park, Glasgow yesterday.

Mitchell, a Forres Harrier, overhauled David Vernon (Victoria Park) and Ross Houston (Central) with a powerful sprint on the muddy surface, finishing in 12 minutes 18 seconds.

Corstorphine took the team bronze, with victory going to Central.

Auckland (Edinburgh University) had an impressive victory, finishing in 13:57, 18 seconds clear of Elspeth Curran (Kilbarchan) with Laura Muir (Dundee) third in 14:29. EAC collected the team silver.
