Athletics: New personal best is Learmonth’s Oslo goal

Guy LEARMONTH (Lasswade) runs in the Hyundai Grand Prix meeting at the famous Bislett Stadium in Oslo tonight chasing a new best time in the 800 metres.

The 20-year-old Loughborough University student, who was third in last Sunday’s Loughborough International in 1min 48.10sec is looking for a time of under 1:48.0 and preferably better than his personal best of 1:47.84.

He faces a quality field led by Australian Ryan Gregson, who has a best of 1:46.5 and an even better 1,500m (3:33.15) and Johan Rodgesat of Sweden, the 2009 World Youth Champion and a bronze medallist in last year’s European Junior Championships in Estonia, whose best is 1:47.09.

“It should be a great race – I’m really looking forward to it,” said Learmonth, who contributed an impressive 47.4sec 400m relay leg last Sunday.
