Athletics: Scots trio top podium at Olympic Test

The final day of the four-day Test Event at Stratford produced a whole slew of good performances from the hungry Scots, revelling in the chance to compete on the track for the 2012 Olympics.

There were British Universities titles at stake as well and three Scots made the top of the podium, Edinburgh high jumper Ray Bobrownicki, who cleared 2.15 metres, Mary Erskine’s FP Myra Perkins, who won the hammer for Loughborough with a season’s best of 56.63m and the now ever reliable Lasswade’s Guy Learmonth, who also won the 800 metres for Loughborough in 1:50.36.

“It’s been a stressful week so I’m relieved to add this title to my indoor one”, said Learmonth who was just back from the USA where he was competing the previous weekend.

But those who took silver may have been even more significant with Capital star Emily Dudgeon (EAC), second in the 800m in 2:06.36, the fastest time by a Scot so far this season and over a second inside her best.

Dundee’s Eilish McColgan was second in the 1500 (4:18.29) and Hannah Evenden second to Perkins in the hammer (55.83m).

Edinburgh’s Lynsey Sharp, slap bang in the middle of her final exams, still managed fifth in the 400 in 55.74, her third such clocking of the weekend while clubmate Sarah Warnock just missed a long jump medal (5.84m).

In the events run by UK Athletics Eilidh Child (Pitreavie) came back after her disappointing 400 hurdles to win a flat 400 in 52.71, the fastest by a Scot this season and better than Lee McConnell (52.75) had done in Italy the previous day.
