Athletics: Young stars shine indoors

Capital athletes took their chance to grab several titles at the Scottish Indoor Under-20, Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 Championships at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall at the weekend.

Scottish senior bronze medallist Peter Loudon (Edinburgh AC) added another two medals to his growing collection when he easily won the U-20 800 metres in 1min 57.18sec then took the bronze in the 400m in 50.61.

Clubmate Seumas Thomson scorched to victory in the U-18 400m in 51.08 and, in the same age group, Robert Ferguson won the high jump (1.85m).

Michael Olsen (EAC) had a fine golden double, the U-14 60m in 7.65 and the 200m in 25.29, while Silvano Marcantonio (EAC) collected two silvers in the U-16 60m in 7.60 and the 200m in 24.55, having earlier clocked 24.27 in his semi-final.

Meanwhile, at Loughborough, former Capital hammer thrower Mark Dry moved to second on the Scottish All Time ranking list behind Edinburgh’s Chris Black (75.40m) with a throw of 73.66m for second place behind UK No. 1 Alex Smith (75.64m).
