The organisers of the new Pitreavie Gift meeting on tomorrow can feel well pleased with their efforts so far with 18 heats of six entered for the 100 metres sprint which carries a first prize of £1000, writes SANDY SUTHERLAND.

New police recruit Greg Turnbull (EAC) is the back-marker off scratch in the first heat, with a former New Year winner Pat Swann off half a metre and the back man in heat two.

The latest New Year Sprint winner Fifer Graeme Lister is back man in heat four off two metres and last year’s winner Martyn Paterson (Central) is off 2.5m in heat ten.

There is also a healthy entry of 11 heats for the Youths 90m where Ben Robbins (EAC) is the scratch runner, giving away starts of up to 24m, while clubmate Josh Kerr is scratch for both 800 and 1200m youths races.

Much of the inspiration for the new meeting has come from the famous Stawell Easter Gift in Australia.
