Capital high jumper Allan Smith has been named Scottish Junior Sports Person of the Year by Scottish Sports Aid.
Smith, winner of a bronze medal in the European under-23 Championships earlier this year and already pre-selected for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, is currently training in Birmingham along with fellow Scot David Smith under the tutelage of British Athletics high jump coach Fuzz Ahmed.
Climber William Bosi, a 14-year-old Broughton High pupil, won the Miguel Trophy for the most improvement.
Meanwhile, Capital physio Ali Hay led Central AC to a clean sweep of the places and a successful defence of the team title in the Scottish 4k Cross-Country Championships at Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, yesterday.
In third place with 400 metres to go, Hay made good use of his 1500 metres speed – he was a Commonwealth Games finalist in Delhi in 2010 – to overhauled clubmates Robert Russell and Andrew Butchart in a close finish, with another clubmate Cameron Boyek fourth and taking the under-20 crown.
Laura Muir (Dundee Hawkhill), another already chosen for Glasgow, robbed holder Rhona Auckland (Edinburgh University) of the women’s title, finishing strongly to win in 13:28.
