Athletics: Bog Trotter takes second

Have your say

Hunter’s Bog Trotter Joe Symonds proved his recent third place in the Scottish Cross Country Championships was no fluke when he smashed his personal best time by more than a minute in finishing a close second in the Global Energy Inverness Half Marathon.

Symonds was timed at 66 minutes 23 seconds and was pipped on the line for the £1000 first prize by Ethiopian Hailu Million after a bold break.

But Gillian Carr (Corstorphine) captured the £1000 women’s first prize also in a personal best time of 76:08.

Symonds’ fellow Commonwealth Games marathon contenders Ross Houston and John Newsom (both Central) were third and fourth respectively.
