Ross MATHESON (Lasswade) followed up his impressive £300 win in the “Four Furlong” (half mile) open handicap at the New Year Professional Gala at Musselburgh Racecourse with another victory in the annual “Promethon” along Portobello Promenade.

GB junior cross country internationalist Matheson covered the revised four-mile course, starting and finishing for the first time at the Portobello 
Indoor bowls Centre, in 19 minutes 34 seconds to beat John Newsom (Central) by 24sec, with English visitor Thomas Adams (Ilkley) third in 20:16.

First woman in the restricted field of 315 was Nicola Duncan (Portobello) in 22:30, beating Scottish internationalist 
Gillian Palmer (Edinburgh AC) by 45sec with Jillian Gordon (Kinross) third in 24:51.

Rachael Dunn (EAC) was first junior woman in 25:07, narrowly beating Leia Glading (Falkirk) (25:08).
