Edinburgh University student Rhona Auckland warmed up for next weekend’s Test Event at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium by setting a course record for the 5k road race at the Balmoral Races on Royal Deeside on Saturday.

Auckland will run the 10,000 metres in the British Universities Athletics Championships which are being held as the Olympic test event as part of the London Prepares series.

The Banchory club member clocked 17 minutes 16 secs to defeat Emma Dunnett (Edinburgh AC) by 53 seconds.

Capital physio Ali Hay (Central) also broke the men’s 5k record with a time of 14:57, while clubmate Ross Houston was runner-up to Andrew Douglas (Inverclyde) in the 10k race, Douglas clocking 31:35, Houston 31:53 and Corstorphine’s Keith Hood 33:01. Hay, who represented Scotland in the 1500 metres at the 2010 Commonwealth Game, showed his best form since surgery last summer.
