An untimely trip, which has left the 25-year-old with a sprained ankle, is a huge blow to his build-up to the Commonwealth Games with the Lasswade ace also missing out on joining Capital stars Chris O’Hare and Lynsey Sharp in Saturday’s New Balance Grand Prix in Boston.

But even though it would mean he misses his elder brother’s wedding, Learmonth is aiming to be fit for a rare Scottish date in the 800 metres at the Muller Grand Prix in Glasgow on February 25, joining a cast of home-grown heroes getting a Gold Coast send-off.
