Hammer throwers to compete in memory of Alan Bertram

Hammer throwers from all over the UK will descend on Livingston tomorrow for a special “Hammerama” day to commemorate the life of Borders throws guru Alan Bertram, who died last year after many years devoting himself to coaching and developing the event, writes SANDY SUTHERLAND.

All six of Scotland’s Glasgow 2014 throwers, bronze medallist Mark Dry, Andy Frost, Chris Bennett, Scottish women’s champion and leading Games finisher Susan McKelvie, Rachel Hunter and Myra Perkins are expected to be there plus Capital thrower Kimberley Reed, who narrowly missed selection but went to the World Juniors in Eugene instead.

The senior women’s event starts proceedings at 10am and the senior men’s follows at 12.30pm.
