Capital miler Chris O’Hare will seek to bow out in style from what has already been one of the most successful careers ever by a Scottish athlete at an American University when he leads Tulsa University in the NCAA Cross Country Championships at Terry Haute, Indiana later today.

Already chosen for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in the 1500 metres after reaching the World Championship final in Moscow last August, O’Hare has been enjoying one last cross country season at his Arizona college base and won the Mid-West Regional title at Iowa State university last weekend.

Other Scots in the field include Lasswade’s Ross Matheson, still in his first season at New Mexico, and Shettleston Harrier Matthew Gillespie, who is at Iona College in New York and was second in his North-East qualifier last weekend.

Favourite will be the defending champion Kenyan Kennedy Kithuka (Texas Tech), while Carlisle’s Tom Farrell will be helping Oklahoma State.
