Oswald pipped at the line for East title

Have your say

Scottish 200 metres champion Ryan Oswald suffered a shock defeat on his home track when he was beaten for the East District title by 400 metres specialist Grant Plenderleith (Falkirk) in a desperate finish at Pitreavie last night.

In cold conditions, the 25-year-old Oswald went off at a blistering pace and everyone thought he had just done enough to win as he fell through the line, holding off fast-finishing Falkirk Victoria Harrier Grant Plenderleith.

But after much deliberation, Plenderleith was eventually given the decision in 21.30 secs, with Oswald awarded the same time.

Third was Scotland junior rugby flyer Ben Robbins (Edinburgh AC) in 22.00 secs.
