A record 85 runners in 12 heats will be chasing the first prize of £3000 for the Open 110 metres sprint at tonight’s third City of Edinburgh Running Festival at Meggetland (6.15pm).

The back marker off scratch is the 2015 New Year Sprint, winner Cameron Tindle (Edinburgh AC), who has not long turned 17 and was this week picked for both the World Youth Championships in Colombia and the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa. The heats are due to go off at 6.52pm with Tindle in heat two giving away some big starts including 20.5 metres to Amy Clancy. The final is scheduled for 9.48pm.

There are several former New Year winners in the other heats including two in heat three, Cumbie Bowers (Glenrothes) and Harvie Lister (Kirkcaldy), plus Dylan Ali (Hawick) in heat five and Tommy Finkle (Edinburgh) in heat seven.

The 800m handicap has also attracted a big prize of £1000 with Scott Pilkington (Edinburgh) the back marker off scratch in heat one.
