Scottish Athletics is today celebrating the selection of a “super six” for the European Indoor Championships in Prague from March 5-8 including Capital stars Chris O’Hare (1500m), Guy Learmonth (800), Allan Smith (high jump) and Jamie Bowie (4 x 400m relay) plus Kirsten McAslan (400m and 4 x 400m) and Laura Muir (3000m).

It was a relieved O’Hare (Edinburgh AC) who heard the news that he had been picked for the team despite his wretched form in the Birmingham Grand Prix when he finished last in a quality field.

“I’m excited to hear I’ve been picked for Prague in a strong British team – I can’t afford to be over tired from travelling like that again,” said the Boston-based Peebles High FP, who had flown back from the USA in midweek after clocking a European qualifying time in the Wannamaker Mile in New York.

East Lothian clubman Bowie finished third in the Trials but has been restored to the 4 x 400m relay squad.
