Stewart’s Melville FP and seven times Scottish 100 metres champion
Nick Smith is bidding to extend an even more amazing record at the annual Braemar Highland Gathering on Deeside tomorrow.
If the 28-year-old Dunfermline-based flyer wins the championship 100 yards again it will be his 11th triumph in a row, a record unlikely to be beaten.
Although he failed to regain his place in the British relay squad this season, the Athens 2004 Olympian still entertains hopes of representing Scotland in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
“It’s slowly coming back again and 2014 is still a target. It would be great to be in Glasgow for the Games, but I take each race as it comes” said the former New Year Sprint winner, who clocked a season’s best of 10.36 secs in a recent British League race for London club Shaftesbury Barnet.
