Basketball: Blaze fired up to face Fury ahead of Scottish Cup test

Boroughmuir BLAZE, who face Glasgow University in the Scottish Cup semi-finals at the Crags in two weeks’ time, have another big game at their new home tomorrow when they host unbeaten Scottish League leaders Falkirk Fury (4.20pm).

Blaze could face Fury in the Scottish Cup final if the Falkirk side oust Edinburgh Kings in the other semi-final at Portobello.

“Of the team who beat Glasgow Rocks everyone is available and we’re ready for another big test,” said Simon Turner, who has resumed his coaching role with the side.

Fury will be without their Scottish international centre Roni Gordon, who suffered a serious knee injury in their game with Kings at the Mariner earlier this month, but should still have the bench strength to cope.

Coach John Bunyan has even hinted, however, that Falkirk might try to re-sign Great Britain Olympic centre Kieran Achara, a former member of the club who had been helping out the Scottish Rocks on a week-to-week basis but finally quit last week.

Edinburgh Kings should have an easier game as they make the short trip to play Dunfermline Reign at Queen Anne High tomorrow (5pm) but Kings have other worries, especially the fate of their Lithuanian power forward Audrius Ciapas who could be out of the Cup semi after being ejected from last Saturday’s game against Troon.
