Basketball: Edinburgh Uni fare well

Edinburgh UNIVERSITY women finished fourth in the British Universities Basketball Championship Finals at Sheffield at the weekend.

That was one place better than Loughborough and some measure of Scottish revenge for Aberdeen’s 77-44 defeat in the Trophy consolation final by a powerful Loughborough men’s team.

Edinburgh, even with the injured Sarah O’Brien, proved too strong for Kent, winning their quarter-final 77-42, with Hilary Lynd top-scoring with 25 points and Ali Mitchell adding 18 and Ashley Carson 11.

After losing 58-31 to the holders UWIC in the semi-final, Edinburgh gave a dispirited display before going down 84-60 to Northumbria in the bronze medal play-off.
