Basketball: Capital girls’ joy in Gibraltar

Scotland mopped up hosts Gibraltar 93-50 to win the European Women’s Under-18 C tournament with an unbeaten record.

Point guard Cara Black (Musketeers) finished top scorer with 16 points, well supported by club-mate Hannah Robb with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Lauren Forde (West Lothian) added 12 points to finish second top scorer overall with 46 points from four games.

Scotland senior cap Sarah Thomson (Northumbria) with 21 points, including five three-pointers, led Great Britain to a 72-50 victory over Romania to finally break their duck in the European Women’s Under-20 tournament in Podgorica.

Fellow Scots Hannah Peacock (Edinburgh Kool Kats) with eight points and five rebounds and Robyn Lewis with three rebounds and five assists both started as GB took a firm grip of the game, leading 18-10 after the first quarter and 36-23 at half-time.

England’s Evelyn Adebayo added 14 points and 13 rebounds.
