Basketball: Kool Kats looking to get the cream

Have your say

Edinburgh Kool Kats have a great chance of achieving a Scottish Cup and League double when they host Glasgow Rocks in the title decider at Portobello High School tomorrow at 1pm.

Already the cup winners, beating the Rocks in the final at Paisley’s Lagoon Centre last month, Kats know they must be at their best against their opponents, who will still be smarting from that cup defeat, which was only their second of the season, the other being to Kats in the league.

Despite their recent run of form and in particular their decisive win over last season’s champions and local rivals Polonia Phoenix at the Crags last Sunday, Kats coach Ben Gunn is not getting carried away. “We’ve got a good bit of momentum going, but we’re still taking it one game at a time as we did before the cup final,” said Gunn.

Rocks believe they played their best basketball of the season in defeating St Mirren at the weekend, so everything points to it being a tremendous tussle when they come up against Kool Cats

It’s another full weekend for the City of Edinburgh club, with Kings seniors hosting Glasgow Rocks men at Portobello tonight at 8pm, and Kats’ cadettes play at the school tomorrow against Rocks at 11am.

Having clinched the Scottish Junior Women’s League title last week, Kats juniors will have only pride at stake against Rocks at 3pm – but the junior men could still catch Perth Phoenix for third place if they beat Tayside Musketeers at 7pm following the cadet men’s game at 5pm.
