Former Edinburgh Kool Kat Hannah Peacock is the latest Scot to sign for the new Women’s BBL team Caledonia Pride.
The basketball player joins her fellow Edinburgh University graduate and team-mate Hilary Wood plus former St Mirren players Robyn Lewis and Sarah Thomson, who are moving north from Leicester Riders and Team Northumbria respectively.
At one point earlier this year, before the new Oriam-based WBBL franchise was announced, Peacock had been considering an offer to go to Northumbria University to pursue her studies and also play for the Newcastle-based WBBL side.
But the new BasketballScotland/EU initative has changed that and has delighted coach Bart Sengers, who coached her while an EU student.
“It’s going to be an exciting season for Hannah as she will be playing in multiple positions – she has incredible athleticism and is working hard to develop her skills from the perimeter,” said Sengers. “She is also the quickest player on our team and is focused on being a great rebounder and defender. I believe she is capable of getting double doubles* in every game in the new season.”
Caledonia Pride open their first season in the WBBL away to Leicester Riders on October 8 and their first home game is on Sunday, October 23 at Oriam, the Basketballscotland National High Performance Centre at Heriot-Watt University’s Riccarton Campus.
* A double double occurs when a player tallies ten or more in two stats categories ie shots plus rebounds or assists.
