The three Scots in the Great Britain men’s team – Kieron Achara, Gareth Murray and Ali Fraser – may be out of EuroBasket after the side’s disappointing exit in Slovenia, but one Scot is still there in the shape of referee Chris Dodds, who was invited to stay on for the second round.

The former Boroughmuir club player, who suffered the disappointment of being overlooked for last year’s Olympics, had already achieved more than any previous Scottish floor official by being nominated for the EuroBasket tournament. Ten years a FIBA referee, Dodds has officiated at three World University Games as well as numerous European club games.

There have been shocks aplenty in the second round of EuroBasket, with Ukraine, conquerors of GB, thumped 85-51 by Latvia, joint favourites France going down 76-62 to Lithuania and former world champions Spain edged out by Greece.
