Edinburgh players Hannah Peacock and Sarah Thomson both scored heavily as Scotland’s basketball team – containing seven members of Capital-based Caledonia Pride – ended their summer tour on a winning note by beating Fo Guang Taiwan 80-67 at the International Women’s Tournament in Kuala Lumpur.

Peacock contributed 19 points, while Thomson, the leading scorer in Friday’s narrow loss to host nation Malaysia, added another 16 points against Fo Guang as Pride coach Bart Sengers’ side edged a see-saw contest. Leading 38-24 at half-time, a damaging third quarter meant it was all-square going into the last ten minutes, but Scotland showed admirable nerve and fitness in the closing stages to strengthen their claims for a place at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Anglo Deanne Hayward scored 33 points in Thursday’s victory over Nan Shan before having a quieter game on Friday, but she was back on form with a game-high 21 points against Fo Guang.
