Rose Anderson (Edinburgh Kool Kats) and Erin McGarrachan (Houston Baptist University) have been named in a squad of 20 to prepare for the Great Britain women’s Eurobasket qualifying campaign this summer.
Anderson was a member of both the GB Olympic team who competed in London 2012 and the GB team who so narrowly failed to reach the final stages of last year’s Eurobasket Championship in France.
She also helped Edinburgh Kool Kats complete a treble of domestic Scottish honours in the season just ended.
McGarrachan, from Glasgow, has represented the GB Under-20 team and steps up to senior level after a successful season with Edinburgh coach Donna Finnie in the American NCAA division one in Houston. The squad will assemble at Worcester University on May 12 for a short but intensive preparation period before their first game at home to Belgium on Sunday June 8.
They also play Macedonia and Lithuania home and away in their group. New head coach, Australian Peter Buckle, who steps up to take over from Welshman Damian Jennings, has welcomed the availability of 11 of last year’s team and the strength in depth of the new squad.
“It will be tough for the players to make the final team and tough for the selectors too.”
