Blair keen to take on fresh challenge

Edinburgh’s international scrum half Mike Blair is relishing a chance to test himself in a new environment after confirming yesterday that he is quitting the Murrayfield-based club he joined ten years ago.

Reflecting on his decision, the 30-year-old, who has been in outstanding form over recent weeks, said: “I’ve enjoyed myself so much here and feel I’ve achieved a lot, which has made this a very hard decision to make, but the time is right for me personally to throw myself at a whole new challenge.”

Blair, who has 80 international caps and 158 Edinburgh appearances as well as a British & Irish Lions tour to his credit, wants to make the move while still at the peak of his powers.

Rugby offers many opportunities and experiences, and, while I believe that this may be one of the most exciting times to be at Edinburgh, I don’t want to regret not trying something different when I finally hang up my boots,” he added.

Although yet to confirm where he will play his rugby next season, Blair has been linked with a move to Perpignan. The Catalan club is desperate to sign a high-quality scrum half.
