Boroughmuir set to give young guns a start against Gala

Boroughmuir are ready to put their trust in reserve strength for this weekend’s home clash against Gala with Edinburgh Rugby poised to use a couple of ’Muir’s teenage prospects in Italy.

Even this early in the season, the Meggetland tussle is assuming added importance with both teams having won three of their opening four games and aiming for a high finish that would mean entry to the British and Irish Cup.

But Boroughmuir will have to do without star centre Harry Leonard who appears lined up for an Edinburgh debut at Aironi and also prop Robin Hislop, who has been on the bench for the Capital side’s three Pro 12 league games so far.

Boroughmuir coach Fergus Pringle said: “Selection should have been easy – the 20 that won at [Edinburgh] Accies. But with Robin Hislop and Harry Leonard with Edinburgh and guys coming back from injury it’s a hard one.

“Jonny Latta comes on the bench to replace Robin Hislop, Iain Moody returns from injury and gets a place on the bench alongside Ali Davidson who was not available last week [and] Mark Hare slots in at centre.”

Meanwhile, Watsonians entertain unbeaten Division Two leaders Hamilton with stalwart Kian Coertze, fresh from making a 200th club appearance, tipping teenage utility forward Chris Scott for big things.

Says Coertze: “Chris has switched from prop to flanker. I predict he could play for Scotland.”
