Bowls: Craigentinny’s prospects of victory reduced by big game

It’s the day after the night before (Scottish Cup Final) so that adds an unknown factor to the prospects of Edinburgh champions Craigentinny producing a winning performance in tomorrow’s first round action in The Co-operative Funeralcare sponsored Inter County Top Ten.

Craigentinny are top-notch and in normal circumstances would be considered strong enough to concede home advantage and still progress at the expense of their Clackmannan & Kinross counterparts, Alva South.

Andrew Caldwell the 26-year-old past winner of the national junior singles crown and skip of the current Triples title holders is the spearhead figure in the Singles and he is supported by teenager Daniel Gormley and E&L skip Willie McDonald in the Pairs.

Kevin McFarlane skips Darren Smith and Gordon Bold in the Triples while Craig McCall, John Shields, David Brown, and Ian Paterson for the Four.

Kirkliston, the current national champions and record three times winners of the title, once again carry the banner for West Lothian and they open with a home game against Kilbarchan of Renfrewshire (2pm).

The Logan clan play a major part in Kirkliston’s team formation with Brothers Gordon and Raymond joined by their respective sons, namely Greg and Grant and their cousin Calum.

Raymond is the spearhead figure in the Singles while Gordon plays second to Greg and Grant in the Fours with Andrew Suddon at lead. John Aitken skips Mark Allison and Calum Logan in the Triples while Steven Forrest and Neil Speirs form the Pair.
