Bowls: Laidlaw wows in Welsh bid

Stacey LAIDLAW got off to a flyer in her attempt to win the WIBC Women’s World Indoor Singles title at the Islwyn club in Pontllanfraith in South Wales at her first attempt.

The Midlothian bowler, 22, won both her opening matches against Betty Morgan from Llandrindod Wells (6-8, 6-5, 2-0) and Laila Hassan from Canada (7-2, 4-5, 2-0). Irrespective of the result in her concluding section match against Jersey’s Alison Camacho today, both will secure berths in the quarter-finals.

In the mixed pairs Laidlaw, in partnership with Arbroath’s Andy Furye, went down to Lowery and Camacho from Jersey 8-4, 7-6 in their round robin section opener.
