Bowls: Treble yell for bowlers as they strike gold

Scotland struck triple gold at the British Isles Bowls Championship at Swansea yesterday.

The West Lothian Fours of Bryan Cooper, James Speirs, Tommy Mann and skip Neil Speirs won the T P Watson Trophy by beating the Channel Islands 20-18 while in the Triples, Craig Irvine, Graeme Higgins and Iain McLean, from Blantyre, enjoyed a 19-9 victory over Wales.

In the Women’s Fours, Lorna Cameron skipped her mother, Audrey, Anne Marie Taggart and Liz Brown to a comfortable 24-10 win over the Channel Islands. However, it was not all gold with Scotland picking up silver after Ireland’s Mark McPeak beat McLean 21-18 in the Men’s Singles and Alison Merrien (Channel Islands) overcame Lynn Stein 21-13 in the Women’s Singles while Lesley Gordon lost 21-13 to Amy Williams (Wales) in the Junior Singles.
