Bainfield ladies suffered a morale-sapping 111-61 defeat against East Lothian in a top-of-the-table clash at The Alex Marshall Arena.
East Lothian won all four rinks in the Division 1C clash.
Wins for skips Emma Logan and Yvonne Veitch were double-figure affairs.
The Bainfield rinks skipped by Marion Dickson, Anne Watson, Isabel Anderson and Mandy O’Donnell did not travel with the highest of expectations but did nurture a degree of optimism having won their home match against EL by 17 shots.
“We competed well enough on the first and third phases but they massacred us on the second and showed why they are the favourites to finish top of the table and go onto the knockout stage,” said Karen Tumblety of Bainfield.
East Lothian laid down a marker on the first phase and managed to unsettle their visitors with a 31-18 supremacy over the opening seven ends then, finding an even higher gear, captured the second phase 50-21.
It was a daunting task to make inroads when 81-39 in arrears entering the third and final phase and it did prove beyond Bainfield but the visitors did enjoy their best period albeit they lost 30-22.
Marion Dickson and her rink of Karen Tumblety, Davina Crawford and Betty Eaton will want to forget a miserable day having been savaged 39-9 by Margaret Murray, Jean Russell, Alicia Irvine and Emma Logan. Logan and Co led 11-1 after six ends then, helped by a seven at end 10, stretched to 19-4. They were aided further by a mighty five at the 13th and a run of 1, 2, 4, 3, 2.
Anne Watson enjoyed a run of 2, 1, 4, 1, 3, 1 to skip Jeanette Crawford, Theresa Blair and Cathie Falconer into a 14-8 lead but losses of 2, 6, 5, 3, 2 resulted in a 28-18 defeat by Diane Rowan, Pat Turner, Nancy McNeil and YvonneVeitch.
Isabel Anderson, Aimie Robertson, Margaret Keenan and Susan Allan enhanced their 27-17 defeat with a 4, 3 finish against Margaret Divine, Rosemary Mackintosh, Gillian Mackintosh and Lauren Baillie.
Mandy O’Donnell and her front-three of Heather Stoddart, Chloe Thomson and Rita Reid added 1, 1, 2, 1 to stand peels at 17-17 playing the last but were piped 18-17 by a single for Megan Kivlin, Muriel Hamilton, Margaret Thomson and Janet Fairnie.
